Surrey Tech Services Ltd provided the design, supply and installation of a wireless fire alarm system in 6-8 Clanricarde Gardens using a radio EMS system. It was decided due to the nature of a fully occupied residential building that the best approach to install a new fire alarm system would be to use a full wireless radio system which would be best suited to this environment to help reduce the inconvenience to the residents and the decorative repair works that would be generated through a wired system. Using an EMS wireless Radio system enabled us the flexibility to provide a reliable radio system that had the capabilities to serve all areas of the premises to cover the stairwell, corridors and serving all flats, ensuring we meet all the requirements of a category grade L1. The existing system in place didn’t meet the required grade of coverage following a fire risk assessment.

The premises is a six-storey building with an internal basement, with flats on every level. Prior to our installation start date, we carried out a radio signal survey test to confirm if boosters are required to improve the signal to all levels of this building. There are two flats that are accessed externally at the basement level, which are also linked to the fire alarm system. Smoke sounders were installed through all communal floors as well as on staircase landings with manual call points on fire exits and heat detectors with sounder bases in each apartment.

With great coordination as always from the managing agents gaining access to the communal and apartment areas of this building was effortless and we were able to carry out our installation to the agreed program. This means we achieved a smooth and speedy project with very little inconvenience to the residents with the peace of mind their building now has a reliable functioning and fault-free fire alarm system throughout the entire block to the correct levels specified on their risk assessment.
